It is evident that certain sentential structures in the texts stand out through internal deviation, but each with its own specific norm and background against which they are foregrounded: the norm which is set up by the text might be either Complexity of the sentence-structure and the deviation in this case is brought up by one foregrounded simple sentence-structure, as it is the case with Joyce and Conrad, or the norm might work in a reversing direction, where the norm is Simplicity of the sentence-structure and the deviation is scored through certain foregrounded complex ones, as it is the case with Hemingway's text taken from The Old Man and the Sea.

Three textual portions are taken as subjects of analysis in this paper. This type of internal foregrounding works inside the text as a kind of deviation which occurs within a deviation. Accordingly, the text itself may develop its own internal norm which is itself susceptible to deviation. Consequently, foregrounding can be seen to work on two levels: outside and inside the text. The text may deviate from either an external or internal norm. Capable of working at any level of language, foregrounding involves a stylistic distortion of some sort through an aspect of the text which deviates from a linguistic norm.

The concept of forerounding is inherently associated with the concept of style as deviance. Internal Deviation is one particular mechanism, amongst other ones, used to achieve an exceptional type of Linguistic Foregrounding.

As a result, this study came up with a set of related recommendations and conclusions. Conclusions of this study have highlighted the credibility of Leech's model of stylistics to reveal the pragmatic facets of the message that a given author of a literary text is trying, consciously or sub-consciously, to communicate with the readers or recipients. Findings of this study have confirmed the applicability, suitability, and credibility of Leech's model of stylistics to Dylan Thomas's poem 'Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night', and that this application resulted in a wider magnitude to interpret the poem as well as a tighter grasp of its universal meaning and touching message. To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher followed a qualitative analytical methodology which was applied on the available related literature, but in a survey-like orientation, and, in addition, a discretionary application, by the researcher, to the three maxims (cohesion, foregrounding, and cohesion of foregrounding) of the Leech's model of stylistics on Dylan Thomas's poem 'Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night'. The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability magnitude of Leech's model of stylistics on Dylan Thomas's poem 'Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night', and by the same token to investigate its credibility to uncover additional layers of the meaning and message of this poem.
